Beta terms
What applies while Margo is a free, manually selected beta rather than a paid product. These sit alongside the Terms, and where the two differ for a beta participant, these win.
What a beta is here
Margo in beta is unfinished software given to you at no charge so that it can be tried in real use. It is not a preview of a finished product; it is the actual state of the work.
- It is free. No card is taken, no trial converts into a subscription, and nothing starts charging when the beta ends.
- Anyone can download Margo and create a Margo Account, but using Margo needs approval: the Margo team approves each tester by hand, and approval is not guaranteed.
- The AI Margo uses is included: it runs through Margo’s AI service and is paid for by Margo for invited testers, within a usage budget per tester. You do not need an AI subscription of your own.
- It can change, break, lose a feature, or stop entirely, with no notice period and no compensation.
- We may end the beta, or end your access to it, at any time and for any reason.
Access and supported platform
The current beta is a macOS app on Apple silicon, with the minimum system version shown on the website, plus an iPhone companion that the Margo team installs for invited testers; the iPhone app is not distributed through the App Store. Anyone can download it and create a Margo Account; Margo works once the Margo team has approved you, and until then the app waits. Availability can be limited by invitation, capacity, geography, or other launch decisions; the website will not imply access where the operator has not approved it.
Participation is free. No payment or credit card is required, and the beta does not automatically convert into a paid subscription.
Who can take part
You must be at least 18. Creating a Margo Account does not guarantee access. The Margo team approves testers by hand, and may decline or withdraw approval at any time. Everything in the Terms about eligibility and acceptable use applies here too.
Your responsibilities and acceptable use
Use the beta lawfully and only for your own work or information you are authorised to process. Do not use it for emergency, medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or other decisions where an unreliable pre-release tool could cause harm.
Do not attack or overload the website or beta services, bypass access controls, let someone else use your beta access without permission, submit another person’s information without a lawful basis, or use Margo in a way that works around the usage budget or the usage rules of the AI service it runs on.
What is not promised
There is no availability commitment, no support response time, and no warranty that the software is fit for any particular purpose. A beta build is provided as it is. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from beta use; mandatory consumer rights and liability that cannot legally be excluded remain unaffected.
That is a statement about the software, not a disclaimer of everything. Where you are a consumer, the mandatory protections of your own law still apply and are not waived by taking part — including, in the EU and the UK, the rules about what a trader must tell you and what it must not do.
Your data during the beta
Website processing and desktop-app processing are separate. Margo’s account service holds your Margo Account and whether you are approved, as the privacy notice describes. The Margo desktop app stores its working records locally on your Mac; we do not receive a copy of those records through the beta website. The records your iPhone needs are synced through your Margo Account and held by Margo’s account service, and the text of AI requests goes through Margo’s AI service to Anthropic, as the privacy notice describes.
If we ever want a diagnostic, we will ask for the specific thing and say what is in it. We will not add silent reporting and call it beta feedback.
Feedback
If you send us feedback we may act on it and build what you suggested, without owing you anything for it. You keep whatever rights you have in what you wrote; you are not transferring your work to us by mentioning an idea in an email.
We will not quote you publicly, or use anything you send as a testimonial, without asking you first.
When the beta ends
- We will tell you before it ends, not after.
- Your records are files on your Mac and stay there. Nothing is deleted from your machine by the beta ending. What your Margo Account holds is kept or deleted as the privacy notice says, and you can delete the account yourself at any time.
- The beta does not convert into a paid subscription. If you want one, you will start one deliberately.
